Pennsylvania State Representative John Galloway was recently arrested for driving under the influence in Harrisburg. The Bucks County representative was pulled over in the early morning hours after police spotted him driving erratically, running a stop sign, and not using his turn signals, reports The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Galloway is just the most recent State lawmaker to be arrested for a DUI. Last month, Representative Cherelle Parker of Philadelphia was arrested for a DUI after driving the wrong way on a one-way street.
According to the Inquirer, after making the stop, the arresting officer smelled alcohol on Galloway's breath, and noted slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and an inability to stand without assistance. The officer issued a field sobriety test which Galloway failed. Galloway refused a breathalyzer test.
Representative John Galloway was charged with driving under the influence, failing to use his turn signals, and failing to stop at a stop sign reports the Inquirer. In a statement, Galloway has already admitted and apologized for his crime:
"Last night, I made a very serious mistake. I drove after drinking alcohol. I was pulled over in front of my apartment in Harrisburg. I cooperated fully with the police officer. It is my understanding that I will be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol."
After hearing Galloway's apology, his constituents may forgive the representative. However, prosecutors are not likely to be so forgiving.
If convicted of a DUI, Galloway can go to jail for three days. In addition, his driving privileges may be suspended for a year for refusing to take the breathalyzer test.
